Earlier today we reported KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo’s predictions for the Apple iWatch, which according to him will be released this year. Kuo didn’t stop at the iWatch and is back with his 2014 predictions for this year’s iPhone 6 models.
The analyst believes that Apple will release two iPhones; one with a
4.7-inch display sporting a 1334×750 Retina display at 326 ppi and a
5.5-inch models will see a 1920×1080 display at 401 ppi. The devices are
expected to have the same aspect ratio as the iPhone 5, so that
developers won’t have to redesign apps once again.
According to Kuo’s predictions, the iPhone 6 will have a new A8
process, 1GB RAM, Touch ID, a thinner side bezel by 10-20 percent, NFC,
and a 6.5-7mm thinner design. The 4.7-inch model is also expected to
have the smaller bezels for one-handed use, adding that the sleep/wake
button will be moved to the side.
Although the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 won’t be used with one hand, it should
have a larger battery life, accompanied by the larger battery with the
extra real estate inside. The analyst claims that Apple thinks the
larger iPhone 6 will make iPad Mini sales difficult, so the company will
only ship around 9 million units and debut later in the holiday
quarter.
An interesting claim by the analyst predicts that only the
highest-end iPhone 6, 64GB with 5.5-inch display, will sport the
Sapphire front glass, due to scarcity. However, Apple is likely to start
implementing the Touch ID sensor into the screen, requiring the front
glass to be made of Sapphire.
Surprisingly, Kuo expects Apple to keep the iPhone 6 camera at 8
megapixels with f2.2 aperture, but of course adding some features and
components to improve image quality. Concluding Kuo’s predicting, the
analyst believes that Apple will end production of the iPhone 4 and 4S,
moving the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S to the lower-end line.
