iPhone

1. The screen replacement part I bought from your site looks scratched up. Why?

All of DBX's replacement and repair parts are 100%  quality garanteed and none of our parts are refurbished. And all of our parts are in mint condition when they are shipped out. Scratches you are likely seeing are just on the screen protector skin that comes with your order. All you need to do is to make sure you remove the screen protector that comes with the part and then it will not look used or scratched. The screen protector seal can be peeled off and is there to protect your part. Please do not remove the protector peel until you have completed the repair to keep from scratching it during installation.

2. How do I determine if I need to replace the LCD screen or a glass digitizer screen for my iPhone?

There are a couple of ways to determine if you need either a LCD or glass touch screen. First, if the image under the glass is not displaying correctly, and the glass touch panel is undamaged, then it is more than likely that you only need a iPhone LCD screen replacement. However, if the glass touch screen is cracked or damaged in some way, or no longer responds to your touch, or is unusable, then you most likely need an iPhone Touch Screen Digitizer replacement part. Alternatively, you may need to order a combo LCD and glass touch digitizer screen, 2-in-1 replacement part. We recommend to purchase the 2-in-1 screen if you are not sure which screen is broken - that way, you have replaced both screens at one time, and you know they are both working correctly. Another reason to purchase the combo screen replacement is to make sure you don't damage your other screen (either LCD or glass touch) during repair.

3. My iPhone battery doesn't last as long as it used to, what can I do?

 It's common for smartphone batteries to lose their capacity over time compared to when they were first installed. Smartphone batteries in particular are taxed by all the features, functions and apps that people rely on so much with iPhones, Samsung, BlackBerrys, HTCs, and so on. Therefore, they are likely to hold a charge for less time over time, especially if you are adding new apps all of the time, and especially if those apps run constantly. Of course, you probably already know that you can change settings on the iPhone to decrease amount of battery the device uses, including lowering the screen brightness, turning off Airplane Mode and even WiFi if you don't need it, disabling apps that are constantly running. However, most people with iPhones don't do, or don't want to do that. Therefore, our first advice is to buy a new battery if you intend on keeping the version of iPhone you have for at least a year, or to purchase an extended life battery, both of which we have in stock, 100% guaranteed, non-refurbished and ready to ship to you today. Check out our iPhone batteries page or our main page for all batteries for all cell, mobile and smartphones and devices. Feel free to contact us if you are having problems in installing a new battery for your iPhone.

1. I Want to See my iPod touch's Battery Percentage, how?

You can enable the battery percentage on any device without needing to jailbreak it; all you need is iBackupBot. Get the right version of iBackupBot for your iPod before the procedure.

Procedure

2. Right-click on your device in the left pane on iTunes and click "Back Up"
3. When this is done, open iBackupBot and wait for it to load your backups
4. Click on the backup with the most recent date (this is the one you made just a second ago)
5. Find and open (double-click on) the file named "Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist"
Note: You can click "Path" on the top bar to sort by path to find it easier
Note 2: There may be two "com.apple.springboard.plist" files. If so, choose the second one listed.
Note 3: You will be prompted if it's the free version, just click cancel
6. Near the top you will see a "<dict>". Add the following code under "<dict>":

Code:

   <key>SBShowBatteryLevel</key>
   <true/>
   <key>SBShowBatteryPercentage</key>
   <true/>

The end result should look something like this:

7. Click save and close the file
8. Press CTRL + T to restore the backup back to your device. This will not erase any data, it is really just copying the data back on that was backed up. It will all be identical, except the file we edited to enable the battery percentage.
Once finished, your device will reboot and it will have the battery percentage enabled. Enjoy

Note on reversal
To take the percentage off, all you have to do is the same thing, but take out those two lines of code. But plist files are automatically alphabetically sorted, so you'll have to scroll down a bit to find it again.

2. What is Cydia?

Cydia is a third-party installer app for iPhone, iPad and iPod. Cydia was created by Jay Freeman (a.k.a. Saurik). The Cydia app is very similar to Apple’s app store, but you can purchase and install non-signed (or not approved by Apple) apps. Cydia allows you to download tons of hacks, tweaks and utilities that you want to run on your iOS device, but are not offered in Apple's app store. Cydia offers tons of applications that can be downloaded for free or for a small amount of money.

Why Use Cydia?

Because Cydia offers you what Apple wil not. For example, Apple doesn’t give you the ability to change homescreen themes on your iPhone. Using Cydia, you can install a tweak called “Winterboard”. This tweak allows you to download and install cool looking themes on your iPhone, iPad or iPod.

Is Cydia Dangerous?

Cydia is not 100% safe because almost every tweak or app is "approved" or allowed to be downloaded and installed on Cydia with no testing or making sure it will not crash. Because none of the apps are checked there is a chance of malicious apps getting through. You should only download apps and tweaks from trusted repositories.

3. What are the risks of Jailbreaking an iOS device?

The absolute worst case scenario is that you could fail to "jailbreak" correctly and get the device stuck in a loop or mode where it is unusable and you are forced to revert back to a "non-jailbroken" state. You may also lose content if you did not make the necessary backups.

This however, does not mean you have permanently broken or in any way destroyed your device, otherwise known as "bricking". If you "brick" a device you mess up the firmware/software so bad that it will not turn and therefore resembles a "brick", or useless device that has no purpose. A device that fails to function due to improper jailbreaking is by no means "bricked". It can be restored.

It is also well known that Apple will turn you away should you bring in a device for service that is "jailbroken". They have a firm stance against altering their devices in any way and state that it will void your warranty. Of course you can simply reinstall iOS and remove the jailbreak before you take it in to an Apple store for service. Upgrading to future iOS versions could remove the jailbreak if not done properly and Over the Air (OTA) updates in iOS 5 and up cannot be performed if your device is jailbroken.

4. What are the features of iOS 7 ?
